Choosing the right colors can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be. A well-chosen palette sets the mood, makes your space feel intentional, and ties everything together.

Here’s a simple guide to get started:

  • Start With a Feeling. Cozy, calm, energized — what vibe do you want your space to give off?

  • Find Your Inspiration. A rug, a piece of art, even a favorite outfit can spark ideas.

  • Stick to Three Main Colors. Choose a dominant color, a secondary color, and an accent.

  • Sample in Your Space. Colors can look completely different depending on lighting — always sample first!

Whenever I kick off a new project, I start by building a color story. Sometimes it’s inspired by the home’s architecture, sometimes by a client’s favorite piece — and sometimes, we’ll pull directly from the pages of The Color Scheme Bible.

Even as a professional designer, having a trusted resource for fresh ideas and unexpected combinations is so valuable.

The right colors can truly transform your space — start with what you love, and build from there.
