If you have a room that faces north, you know the sunless struggle is real. But don’t worry, we’re not here to leave you in the dark -- literally or figuratively.

Check out my recommendations below for some paint colors that bring the warmth and the wow to north-facing rooms.

A warm, creamy white that’s never stark and always soft. It’s a classic for a reason.

The name says it all; soft, elegant, and just warm enough to keep things feeling cozy in lower light.

Neutral without being boring. It leans warm (which you want), and plays nice with both modern and traditional vibes.

Not feeling the neutrals? This sunny yellow gives your room some much-needed pep without being overly bold for those of you who want a little color.

For those who want a lot of color, Cavern Clay is rich, earthy, and a whole moment. It’s a power move, especially when color-drenching.

TIPS

  • ALWAYS test your paint. What looks like a warm white in the store might actually look icy on your walls. Paint big swatches and live with them for a few days.

  • Layer your lighting. Paint helps, but don’t sleep on lamps, sconces, or overhead fixtures to really bring the glow.

  • Color drench. I'll forever recommend this for any room.

Choosing the right paint color for a north-facing room can be especially challenging. But leaning into warmer tones and following a few of my tried-and-true tips can make all the difference.
