Small Space, Big Style: Design Tips for Apartments and Condos

Living in a smaller space doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. With the right design moves, your apartment or condo can feel both uniquely yours and surprisingly spacious.

1. Work Vertically

When square footage is limited, look up! Use tall shelving and wall-mounted lighting to draw the eye upward and maximize space without crowding the floor.

2. Find Functional Furniture

Opt for furniture that does double duty — a storage ottoman, a bed with drawers underneath, or a dining table that expands. These pieces save space and solve problems.

3. Keep it Cohesive

A cohesive color palette can bring a sense of flow and visually expand a small space. Thoughtfully layered neutrals, paired with color or texture, keep the look fresh without feeling busy or overwhelming.

4. Reflect and Expand

Strategically placed mirrors reflect light and give the illusion of more space. A large mirror behind a sofa or near a window can instantly open up a room.

5. Curated, Not Cluttered

Be picky about what you display. A few intentional decorative objects, layered textiles, and well-chosen art make a space feel lived-in without overtaking it.

Just because you're short on space doesn’t mean you have to be short on style. Even the smallest space can feel personal and put together, it just takes a little extra effort.
