Need Some Space? Try These 5 Essential Interior Design Tips for Maximizing Your Room's Potential

Trust me, I get it. You can't imagine a future where you always feel so cramped. A space you originally thought was cozy has become too cluttered and compact. But you don't just want to give up and move, at least not yet. Try these tips to help optimize your space for the functionality and aesthetics you desire.

  1. Cut Out the Clutter: While this may seem like an obvious first step, decluttering your space is essential to keep things from getting messy again. Embrace your inner minimalist when going through your items. If something doesn't serve a purpose or 'spark joy,' let it go.

2. Get Stylish Storage: When you're surrounded by bland bins and crowded clothing racks, it's no wonder you feel overwhelmed and uninspired. Think beyond traditional storage solutions and opt for multifunctional furniture with hidden compartments or an attractive armoire. 3. Manipulate with Paint: Don't underestimate the power of paint in your space. By painting your walls a light tone, you bring in brightness and create an illusion of openness. Whites, creams, and soft pastels reflect natural light, making a room feel more expansive. Color-blocking or stripes can also help visually expand a room. Horizontal sections of color will make a wall appear longer, while vertical sections can help it look taller.

4.   Look in the Mirror: While self-reflection is important, that's not what I'm talking about here. Mirrors reflect both natural and artificial light, creating depth and dimension. By incorporating them into your space, you can amplify light and visually expand your room. Different shapes and sizes can also be used to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your space.

5. Set Boundaries: Your home office may double as a guest bedroom, but that doesn't mean your spare mattress needs to be your new Zoom background. Create distinct zones within your space by strategically placing wallcoverings, rugs, and room dividers. By designating different areas and separating functions, you can meet the needs of the room without the constant reminder of how your in-laws will be staying with you for an entire month next December.

By implementing these 5 interior design tips, you can transform even the smallest rooms into a space you're truly happy with (or at least until something better comes along).
